What is Autistic Gold? How is Brandon's Voice Getting Involved?

Autistic Gold is a recent movement within the autism community to shift emphasis away from Autism Awareness and towards Autism Acceptance.

What does Gold have to do with Autism you may ask? Paul from the Youtube Channel “Aspergers from the Inside”, explains this connection thoroughly in his video, What is Autistic Gold? We will summarize the key points here, but the short video is a great watch. Firstly, the abbreviation AU that many people use to identify themselves as having Autism, is also the chemical symbol for Gold. Gold is one of the rarest metals in the world, much like Autism is a rare disorder. Being rare means that people with Autism are valuable. Corporations are starting to catch on and invest in seeking out autistic talent. But people with Autism are not just rare, they are also special, resourceful and have so much to offer in this world that has yet to be discovered. Autistic Gold is meant to highlight these incredible attributes and to push for not just awareness, but true acceptance of people with autism.

For years now, organizations that support individuals with autism have pushed solely for awareness. But what exactly does awareness do? Does it change how someone is treated in their workplace or in their learning environment? Does awareness provide acceptance in everyday life? Unfortunately, the answer is no. Autistic Gold represents accepting individuals with autism, not just bringing awareness of their existence and talents to others. Much like you cherish and love your family and friends for who they are, Brandon’s Voice wants to help everyone accept and cherish the autistic people in their lives and in the world.

Join Brandon’s Voice in accepting individuals with autism! Help us be a voice for Autistic Gold. Our upcoming Autistic Gold Raffle is the start to our Be a Voice for Autism program, in which we feature community driven content from people on the autism spectrum. We're thrilled to introduce our first post later this month!

We will be posting more content throughout the event and beyond, so please show support to our wonderful contributors by reading and sharing their content!
