Memory Recall

The media has a tendency to portray people on the spectrum as having an almost superhuman photographic memory, but that's not always the case. Sometimes, it's the complete reverse. Having issues with memory recall is not a requirement for being on the spectrum, but it is a symptom that many of us experience. It's different for everyone, but I personally struggle the most with my short-term memory. And, at least for me, I have found that my short-term memory is not necessarily bad, but my recall of it is. If given the time to let them sink in, I am able to log memories in my mind. But it takes time for my brain to communicate with itself and connect my short-term to my long-term memory. If I let the memory sink in, then I will be able to remember. If I don't, I may not be able to recall things until days later. So if you've got trouble remembering what someone just told you moments ago, don't worry! You're not alone. It can be an incredibly frustrating symptom to deal with, but be patient with yourself. The brain sometimes just takes some time to collect itself, and that is perfectly okay.
